Self-taught Australian designer Lauren Besser is guided by experimentation and instinct.
It was during travels through Africa and Central and South America, and the remarkable women she encountered hand making craft as a means to live.
A frustration with the lack of available creative designs, and the desire to convey the often contradictory intricacies of daily life experiences via a wearable medium, led Lauren to follow her passion for making her own jewellery and accessories which evolved into MARIPOSSA.
Maripossa’s first collection was released in Australia in 2010. Within a year the label was invited to showcase its' artisan jewellery in Germany, receiving the Young Designer Award for Accessories during F/W 2011/12 Mercedes-Benz Berlin Fashion Week.
Laura’s designs reinforce the concept of opposition using sterling silver and natural crystal embellishments fused together with fine mixed-metal chain, hand-woven into intricate artisan pieces. The fine, yet coarse material, transforms into a soft, fabric-like metal artwork. This idea of contradiction and ambiguity rests at the core of MARIPOSSA.
Maripossa’s pieces are complex, convoluted and unique to the individual. Moulds are not used in any of the jewellery and each piece is hand oxidized ensuring a quality finish.
Maripossa will be arriving at FALLOW shortly. To be notified upon it's arrival, simply email us at info@fallow.com.au
